A nonprofit group I found and researched for light pollution was the International Dark Sky Association. This group works to protect the future and present of the night sky and gives us critical information on what resources are being affected. The website listed a lot of interesting facts on light pollution and also included multiple apps we at home can download to check the amount of light pollution is currently in our area using the camera on our smartphones. I did not see any information that directly pulled at emotional heartstrings but they did include a section on how this is negatively affecting our overall development and sleeping patterns. When researching tax information on this group I found that this program is exempt from income taxes. I believe this organization is credible as in the past year of 2019 they contributed about 708k to research and attempts to lower the impact of light pollution on dark skies. This website did include a section asking for donations from their viewers but it was hidden in a side tab rather than a giant “donate now” button in bold on the beginning of the page. Donations are said to fund research and are completely tax deductible for the donator. There is also a section to become a member and to be frequently updated on observations. The website did also include a new section about Covid-19 and how they will continue to research but will do so as individuals and compare information over email and video chat systems.
