The nonprofit group I chose for my argumentative paper about light pollution is Dim the Lights: An Effort to Save the Night Sky. This organization was founded in 1988 and has been going strong ever since. One of the main focuses of this site is the problem of not being able to clearly see the milky way galaxy in the sky. The organization focuses three-quarters of its budget to evaluate outdoor lighting systems and offers much more eco friendly alternatives to minimize light pollution. While reading through the organizations website I learned a lot of background information about how the main problems are prolonged in industrialized countries. With this being said, about only 20 percent of northern Americans can see the Milky Way Galaxy without a telescope and only using the naked eye. This organization was founded in 1988 in hopes to protect light pollution and the science of astronomy. Based on my research so far I believe this group has realistic goals in order to reduce the amount of light pollution used on a daily basis. I think they are also a good resource because they have a lot of information displayed and interesting facts for their public viewers. Throughout the website I did not see any sections asking for donations from their viewers and followers. There was also not a section where they tried to pull on the viewers heartstrings in order to ask for more donations. I believe this site is set up for educational views for the public only.
